The concept of Metalbird was born in New Zealand in 2011. It was a whimsical idea that has transformed into a form of covert street art in 3 countries around the world and the likelihood of many more to come. To find out more click here.
A copper chromium alloy steel, Corten® is weather resistant – it’s designed to rust quickly, which gives a layer of protection. It means that Metalbirds last for decades, with a patina that changes with the seasons.
Unfortunately at this stage it isn't feasible for us to do one off projects - as much as we'd love to. If you have something larger in mind though please get in touch by clicking here and we'll see if we can help.
If you are installing a metalbird into a soft timber you can hammer it straight into the tree (or post). If you are installing it into a medium or hard timber, you will need to drill the timber first and then hammer it in. Click here for more information.
No, the hammering of a steel ‘peg’ into a tree will not do any damage to it - they are designed naturally to sustain such circumstances. The tree will naturally seal off around where the bird is installed to protect itself from disease. Our original birds are seven years old and the trees are showing no harm whatsoever.
